HF/AP Meetings

Meetings

Per the State Department, au pair & host family meetings are mandatory. Au pairs must attend a monthly meeting and host families must attend at least one meeting per year.  Call me for other arrangements if you cannot make a meeting so that we can all stay in compliance.

Host Family Meetings:

March & September: Last Sunday of the month usually starting at 2-3pm and lasting until 4-6pm…  This will give you an opportunity to socialize with other host parents while the children have fun too!  You only need to attend one meeting/year.

Au Pair Meeting Rules

1. Be on time. The meetings are planned many months ahead of time and you are expected to plan your schedule around it. If you are running late call me so I can plan accordingly. If you miss a major part of the meeting, I may count it as a missed meeting.

2. The meetings are mandatory. We understand that things happen and so you can miss 2 meetings per year. So if you are on vacation, sick or just have other plans you may use this. More than two missed meetings will result in you being ineligible to have your deposit refunded when you get back home, as well as loss of your paid return flight home.

3. Participation. You are required to participate in the meetings. I also spend time planning and am trying to make these fun and interesting for you. They will be as much fun as you make it. They give you opportunity to socialize and share information with other au pairs and create fun memories from your year in the US.

4. Carpool or help with transportation. If you are carpooling with me or need help with transportation you have to contact me and coordinate with me at least 5 days before the meeting. It is your responsibility to plan ahead of time. I do not always check my email on Friday night or over the weekends.

5. Getting to the meeting. Your host family is required to provide time off and transportation to the meeting (the same applies to taking classes). Whether you are provided with a car (and gas in it) or money for a bus or gas if another au pair drives you.

6. Cost of the meeting. This is your responsibility. I don’t usually plan expensive meetings and if I do (like white water rafting) I will offer an additional meeting that month.

7. Issues. If you have any issues or need to talk to me in length we will schedule a separate time to talk. I want to be available to all of you during the meeting and participate in the activity with you.

8. Guests are welcome. You are welcome to bring friends to our meetings.

9. Bring cameras and have fun!  I will be taking pictures and making a photo montage of your experience to share with the world!

On just a slightly related note; I want to ask you to PLEASE, respond to me when I ask for it. I need you to communicate with me and give me feedback if we want to have a successful relationship and meetings; plus it is polite.

Kind regards,

Karin
